This issue affects devices that run iOS11 or later, protected by VideoGuard Digital Rights Management (VG DRM).
VGE-DRM-EXP-K9, VGE-DRM-PRO-K9, and VGE-DRM-ULT-K9 - all versions earlier than Update 18.104.22.168.
||iOS screen recording is not blocked on iOS 11 devices|
Devices that run iOS11 with VG DRM can record video content to the device without the associated encryption. Originally protected content is then freely available to copy and share by the end user.
Service providers that use VG DRM encryption with Apple devices that run iOS11 or later, not protected by VideoGuard Everywhere (VGE) Update 22.214.171.124, are affected
Apple recently released a Beta version of iOS11, where the new iOS Screen Recording feature was introduced.
This new feature makes it possible for Apple devices that run iOS11 to record video content directly onto the device without proper encryption, even when the original content is properly encrypted by VG DRM.
In the latest Beta versions, a new application program interface (API) was added which provides the ability to detect iOS Screen Recording.
VGE Update 126.96.36.199 can now detect iOS Screen Recording and prevent or stop the subscriber from viewing the content while iOS Screen Recording is active, which prevents the issue.
VGE update 188.8.131.52 detects active iOS Screen Recording and will not let video streaming sessions start.
When iOS Screen Recording is activated during streaming, the VGE stops decoding the video stream and only the player cache will be available.
The error logged in SessionStatusCallback is:
End users are able to record protected content while they watch the content with the new iOS Screen Recording feature.
Protected content is stored on the device in unencrypted mode.
Originally protected content is freely available for copying and sharing by the End User.
Service Providers need to upgrade their VG DRM library for iOS devices to VGE update 184.108.40.206 prior to Apple's Fall 2017 release of iOS 11.
This is not available via download. This VGE update 220.127.116.11 will be delivered via your project delivery team.
